Why Age Appropriate Playgrounds Matter

Why Age Appropriate Playgrounds Matter

When you visit most playgrounds with your children, it isn’t difficult to find fun activities to do. However, not all playgrounds are created equal.

In fact, there are significant variations between what is considered appropriate for toddlers ages 6 months to 2 years, pre-school children ages 2 to 5 years, and school age children ages 5 to 12. And all too often, playing on age-inappropriate equipment can quickly turn into an emergency room visit.

So, what kinds of playgrounds should you be looking at for your pre-school aged child? An age-appropriate option will have a few main attractions, including:

  • Certain climbers
  • Horizontal ladders that are no more than 60 inches tall (more appropriate for children between the ages of 4 and 5)
  • Merry-go-rounds
  • Ramps
  • Rung ladders
  • Single file step ladders
  • Slides
  • Spiral slides up to 360 degrees
  • Spring rockers
  • Stairways
  • Swings

At the Ladybug Child Care Center, we guarantee that your child will only have access to age appropriate playgrounds that aid in your child’s mental, physical, and emotional development.
