School age care is a general term that that refers to programs that operate before and after school as well as during summer and holiday breaks. However, the benefits of such care are anything but general.

In fact, school age care offers specific benefits like giving children the ability to make friends, develop relationships with adults serving as role models, while also building self-esteem and learning conflict resolution skills.

Of course, not all school age care programs are created equally. Many differ according to the type of care being provided as this type of care can refer to anything from licensed to unlicensed (or recreational) care operated by local parks or recreational departments.
