Back-to-School During COVID

Back-to-School During COVID

Posted on August 25, 2020 by Ladybug Child Care Center

It’s amazing what a difference a year makes. In August of 2020 we were making a standard back-to-school checklist and this year we’re trying to figure out Zoom meetings and hybrid schedules.

Things are new and scary right now, but we know that we can make it through! If your little bugs are starting school soon or they’re just starting now, here are some things to consider.

Should I Still Do Back-to-School Shopping?

Absolutely! Kids still need school supplies to do their homework even if they won’t be in a classroom as often as last year.

Regarding clothing and other fun items, picking out new outfits can help keep some semblance of normalcy and make the time feel happier.

Are There Resources to Help My Child Learn Online?

You may not be a teacher, but there are online resources you can use to help your little one learn beyond their standard classes.

Khan Academy is a great option for kids in pre-K all the way through high school. As their website says, they provide, “A world class education for anyone, anywhere. 100% free.”

This resource shouldn’t replace school, but it can help as a complement to it. Here are some of the options they offer:

How Do I Keep My Little One On Track?

Organize everything. Screen-time, daily schedules (Including breaks), you name it. The more harmony you can bring to the situation, the better chance they’ll have to learn in a less-than-ideal situation.

What If Online Learning Doesn’t Work For My Kid?

First, it’s great to have hope that things will turn out the way they’re supposed to. However, it’s also important to approach difficult situations pragmatically.

If virtual learning isn’t working out no matter how hard you try, it might be time to consider alternative options. These could include private tutoring or even transferring to a private school.
