5 Delightful Fall Activities for Families
Posted on September 27, 2022 by Ladybug Child Care CenterSchool is back, but that doesn’t mean the fun is over! Summer may have warm weather with days on the lake, but the fall season has plenty of awesome things your family can do together as the weather gets cool and crisp.
1) Corn Mazes, Hayrides, & Scarecrows
These three can be done separately, but sometimes they’re part of the same event! Each activity is fun and can help with a child’s development:
- Corn mazes help them learn teamwork and problem-solving
- Building scarecrows gives them a chance to use their creativity
- Hayrides … Ok, maybe this one is mostly just for fun! Let’s say they learn how to slow down and enjoy the scenery.
2) Go to an Apple Orchard
We’re in prime apple-picking season! Some of the tastiest apples in the world can be found in Minnesota apple orchards during the autumn months. Once you have a bag of delicious apples, you and your little ones can make homemade caramel apples or an apple crisp.
3) Visit a Pumpkin Patch
Halloween is coming soon! You’ll need to carve a jack-o-lantern in no time, so plan a fun trip to pick out a pumpkin. Degler Farm in Chanhassen is a fun option that includes a bunch of cute activities.
4) Enjoy the Leaves
Make piles and jump in them. Press leaves between sheets of paper for a fun arts and crafts project. Take a day trip down Highway 61 to towns like Red Wing, Lake City, Wabasha, and Winona.
The scenery surrounding these towns is gorgeous with the tree-covered bluffs overseeing the Mississippi River. There’s also an awesome Pepin Heights apple store in Lake City that offers a fun stop on the road trip!
5) Raise a Caterpillar
Want an experience that’s fun and educational? Catch a caterpillar and watch as it becomes a butterfly! Your little bug will learn about the metamorphosis process and get a thrill out of watching the transformation. Learn how to raise a caterpillar here.
